Exploring Holmes Run Park
December 18, 2009
If you look around in Alexandria, you might think that there are no natural getaways nearby. But there are! Okay, okay – it’s not the same as Shenandoah National Park, but come on… there are still options.
Thursday evening I took a quick trip into Holmes Run Park. It’s a little bike/walking path that winds a few miles through woods, residential areas and beside Holmes Run. With the mix of environments, it’s a nice experience and provides some possible locations for different types of wildlife.
On past trips I’ve seen birds, small mammals and even deer. No deer came out on Thursday but I was greeted by a number of birds, including a heron.
With temperatures in the low 30s I opted to go light and brought a wide angle lens. Let’s consider this an introduction to the site.
