Recapping recent sightings
April 26, 2010
Miss me? Since I last wrote I’ve had some great encounters. Some of them I’ll mention now and a few will come out in the next few days.
Although I haven’t seen any snakes yet this year, I’ve heard they’ve re-emerged. In the reptile and amphibian department, I’ve been seeing plenty of turtles, frogs and toads. I’ve also spotted one skink in Huntley Meadows Park.
On that same outing, as I ventured down the informal trail at the back of the park, I caught motion that happened to be an Osprey coming in to land with a meal. Acting on instinct, I fired off a few shots and was able to capture the shot below.
For several minutes he tore into his meal and gazed at his surroundings.
In almost all of my encounters with birds of prey, I find myself hating the limits of my lenses. A 600mm lens would have been a blessing on that outing.
Eventually it took to the skies and flew off into the distance.
One of my favorite things about Huntley Meadows Park is the sheer density of life. Wetlands are filled with so many creatures its hard not to find something great on each outing. That is one of my main reasons for visiting it so often.
In other news, my Photoshop saga has come to an end and I’m happy to report that I’ve got a full CS4 suite on my machine now. My workflow will be so much easier now. It’s already helped immensely with the book layout.
